Lay Training

Background

The Diocese of Manicaland workshop held at Mufudziwakanaka Parish church, Dangamvura, in October 1999, ushered many commissions among them the Christian Education Commission.  Christian Education has a few sub-committees and one of them is the lay training.

A team of five people was established.  In St. Luke 10:2, Jesus said to His disciples, "There is a large harvest, but few workers to gather it in.  Pray to the owner of the harvest that he will send out workers to gather in his harvest."

Mission Statement

Our mission statement is based on Christ's command (St. Matthew 28:20).  Jesus said to his disciples, "Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you;  and so, I am with you always even to the end of the age."  The lay training team is therefore called to a serious commitment.

Our Vision

Our vision is to fulfill our mission statement as a lay training team by establishing and teaching lay leaders throughout all the diocesan out stations.  (St. John 8:31-32).  Jesus said to those who believed in Him, "If you obey my teaching you are really my disciples, you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free."

Objectives

  • To encourage all our parishes and mission centres to establish their own training teams;
  • To equip all our Christians with sound knowledge so that their participation in the life of the church is not minimal and limited;
  • To train as many law leaders as possible throughout the parishes and mission centres;
  • To encourage all Christians in our diocese to have a truly Anglican identify;
  • To develop good leadership skills for both men and women in our churches;
  • To develop income generating project ideas in order to become self supportive;  and
  • To encourage Bible study in all church groups.
